Overview

Davis' revised May budget plan included fewer cuts to education.

Governor Davis presented his revised May budget plan for 2003-2004, lessening the blow to education by reducing the proposed cuts he presented in his January budget proposal.

Some highlights include:

  • Davis scrapped his proposal for across-the-board cuts to 64 categorical programs. He instead proposed to make cuts to specific programs.
  • He proposed to continue his $1.7 billion class size reduction program and his accountability program.
  • Community college fees will increase from $11 a unit to $18. In January, Davis proposed to raise fees to $24 a unit.
